The project management course consists of a 2 day workshop, which is structured as follows:

Programme structure

Each day will comprise four sessions of 2 hours each separated by refreshment breaks creating a working day of 9½ hours between 8.30am and 6pm.

Programme — Day One

Introduction to Project Management (Session 1 - 2 hours)

·        Define Project Management

·        Define the Types of Project

·        List Typical Areas of Failure

·        Address Avoiding Problems

·        Detail the Roles of the Project Manager

 

Project Initiation (Session 2 - 2 hours)

·        Investigate the requirements for successful project initiation.

·        Scope

·        Brief

·        Risk Assessment

·        Risk Management

 

Project Planning – Task Breakdown (Session 3 - 2 hours)

·        Give an overview of the project planning cycle.

·        Give some key definitions.

·       Introduce the concept of a Work Breakdown Structure.

 

Project Planning – Network Analysis (Session 4 - 2 hours)

·        To produce a logic diagram

·        To define relationships between tasks.

·        To develop the logic diagram into a network diagram.

·        To generate the overall project time scale.

·       To introduce the Gantt Chart.

 

Programme — Day Two

Project Planning – Adding Resources (Session 5 - 2 hours)

·        Identify the Types of Resources

·        Look at how to allocate them

·        Look at the tasks most likely to be forgotten

·        Identify how to scope the Project Budget

·       Look at the make-up of the Overall Project Plan

 

Project Control (Session 6 - 2 hours)

·        Look at the importance of communication

·        Introduce Progress Reports

·       Introduce Project Meetings

 

Software in Project Management (Session 7 - 2 hours)

·       To look at the role of the computer in Project Management

 

Review and Action Planning (Session 8 - 2 hours)

·        Role of the Project Manager (revisited)

·        Review of course content

·        Requirements for further personal development

·        Action plans
